Has there ever been a regular bike night gathering in Nairobi? I would propose something like first Wednesday of each month at (a place that has plenty of secure parking) like Carnivore or Westgate, maybe a place in Karen. Thoughts? Suggestions?

  1. Of course they are bike specific. You are safer in the car from drunk people as you have a cage around you. Also, hitting a pothole in a car will not throw you to the ground. Anyway mate, I wish you the best of luck riding in Nairobi in the pitch black 😉

  2. The daytime risk is nearly gone, other cars, driving at night not benign able to see the road at night is prob my biggest concern. I have more recently purchased all brighter gear (eg gloss silver helmet instead of flat black) for the rare times I do drive at night. I hav thought about putting a blinking light on the back of the bike for night, but it is petty rare.

  3. Prestige has a killer parking setup, food and restaurant awesome at Havana. I am really torn about the parking at Havana. Bringing a mass if bikes is a whole new, additional magnet for the seedy crowd.
As a side note: To be honest, not everyone who has a bike is an upstanding citizen, we have to think about theft from inside the community as well. Sometimes it is a greater risk.

  4. Robbers that would affect bikes aren’t an issue in Westlands. The main issue is fending off the little glue sniffers and the begging mamas. Of course pick pockets are everywhere, but not an issue if you have your wits about you. And the pickpockets are not an issue in front of Havana, it’s on the darker bits of Woodvale or Mpaka. Westlands of today is not the Westlands of even a year ago. The whole area is constantly under police patrol. The Emirates in-flight magazine even has a whole two page spread this month covering the clubs of those two streets.

  5. Has anyone thought of Klub house? I normally meet a few other bikers there on Fridays or Saturday evenings. Chilled out atmosphere you can chat foods not too bad. There’s ample secure parking for bikes and you have the option of sitting inside and playing pool or sitting outside next to your bike. And there’s three bars to choose from. The crowds not too bad either. Perhaps for those who are interested we can get together next friday/Saturday evening. The traffics not too bad that side an the owner is also a biker. Any thoughts?

  6. I just spoke to the owner of Klub house and he is very open to the idea and has even guaranteed a reserved space for our group. All bikes are welcome no discrimination. Will be a good forum for everyone to get to know each other and get the biker community closer as well as have a good time. Can I know who is open to meet next weekend Friday or Saturday evening so I can inform him to expect us.

  7. Cool. Let me put this up as a new post with the two options and see which one gets more hits. We can then try the other one depending on how it goes. I am a bit fearful of the ‘posers’ sitting and hanging on bikes at K1. But not nearly as fearful as Havana.
